Autumn Stables Plot Summary
After her husband's death, Autumn Carlisle can no longer afford the mortgage on her ranch, so she decides to sell it to a handsome carpenter who claims he'll leave it as is. Just when sparks begin to fly between the two of them, however, she learns his true intentions are to divide the ranch into parcels and flip them for a huge profit.
Starring: Cindy Busby and Kevin McGarry
My Movie Grade: B
The story is a good one because it's a great mix of drama and light-hearted romance. Autumn struggles with the loss of her husband while trying to move on with her life, and this triggers emotional conflict in the movie. Is it possible for her to love again? It's a movie about letting go and finding a new dream--learning to make the best of a bad situation.
Why the "B" grade? After selling the ranch to Jake, Autumn has 30 days to vacate the property. In real life, this means Jake wouldn't set foot on the property until he took possession, yet he is there constantly, measuring, making repairs, and waltzing into the house.
Autumn also tries to dictate to Jake what he can and cannot do to her property, which is unrealistic. A former property owner has no say in renovations planned by the new owner.
Last, everything Autumn does stems from her love of horses. Turning the ranch into a bed-and-breakfast doesn't fit the plot. Even if Autumn offers sunset tours on horseback, her daily grind would be completely centered on hospitality, making breakfasts, and cleaning rooms, plus she'd have to deal with scores of guests being in her personal space. Script writers should have kept the story's focus on horses. The property could have been turned into a horse camp for kids or a backdrop for special events, like weddings. If Autumn can move forward in her relationship with Jake, then she should also be able to return to horse training, even though it had been a dream she'd shared with her husband. There are several avenues the writers could have taken to stay consistent with Autumn's affinity for horses, but they "neigh-glected" to do so.

The horses in the movie are beautiful, and if you're an animal lover, you will definitely agree with Autumn's statement about an animal's sensitivity to its owner's emotions:
Horses are like mirrors that reflect whatever you're feeling but amplified.
