Jingle Bell Princess Plot Summary
A princess finds herself stranded in Maine during the holidays and takes shelter with a handsome widowed father and his mother.
Starring: Merritt Patterson and Trevor Donovan
My Rating: A+
You Can't Go Wrong with Royal!
No matter how old we get, we never ceased to be charmed by fairytale stories about a princess finding her happily-ever-after. Jingle Bell Princess doesn't disappoint, and for those who think GAC original movies aren't as good as Hallmark, they might think twice after watching this gem.
Merritt Patterson (Princess Amelia) manages to maintain a semi-convincing-yet-forced English accent throughout the movie--we expect royals to have one--and it lends itself to the regal aura of the story.
Unlike most elitists, Amelia isn't afraid to get her hands dirty. She paints, runs errands, and even washes a dog! She spends time with Sam's (Trevor Donovan) daughter crafting and building a snowman. She hides her royal status until she's forced to admit her identity, and she's always down-to-earth, with no desire for special treatment or privileges.
Jingle Bell Princess Is Based on a Book
If you enjoy the movie, you'll undoubtedly appreciate the book, too. In the novel by Barbara Dunlop, the main character is Jasmine, Sam isn't staying with his mother, and he's the father of twins. You won't be bored reading the book but will enjoy discovering how it differs from the movie.
A Happily-Ever-After Is a Bit Murky
Sam is established in Tucker, Maine. It's where he and Sophie have forged a home and a life, and it's near his family and friends.
Princess Amelia makes it clear she intends to fulfill her royal obligations by assuming the throne when her time comes. How are she and Sam going to resolve this conflict?
Amelia invites Sam and Sophie to her country for the annual New Year's Eve ball, but that is the only glimpse viewers get into their future. It's as if GAC isn't sure how the couple will survive and makes no attempt to work out the details for us.
Is Jingle Bell Princess Worth Your Time?
Yes! Jingle Bell Princess is a delight from start to finish, like GAC Family is flexing its muscles to show us what they are capable of when it comes to developing quality romcom content viewers want. It appears we will be in for more treats like this movie in the near future.
